We traveled about 2 and a half hours from Bel Passo to Piazza Armerina where the Villa del Casale is located and is the site of Sicily's great Roman Ruins. This is located in Southwestern Sicily and what I did not know then and do know now is that this is the closest corner of Sicily to North Africa. I thought that was amazing that I was so close to Africa. There are intact mosaics still being unearthed depicting the Roman life. These ruins were saved for posterity by centuries of mud slides. It looked to me that the Romans were advanced many centuries ago, in the art of creature comforts. In other words I think they lived very well. This was amazing to see and in 2011 they will have more unearthed, I do hope I get to go back and see the rest they uncover.
